🔍 How to Extract Information from Invoices Using UpBrains AI

1️⃣ Access the Extractor Panel

From your UpBrains Admin Workspace, select the Extractors on the left menu.

2️⃣ Choose Your Approach

You can either:

  • Use a Prebuilt Invoice Extractor if available. There are many prebuilt models such as:

    • Standard Invoice Reader

    • Receipt Extractor

    • Purchase Order Extractor

    • ID Documents Extractors

    • Generic Key-Value extractor

    • Plain OCR (Text) Extractor

    • …

    You can test prebuilt extractors to assess their fitness for your needs.

  • Or Create a Custom Extractor tailored to your invoice format

3️⃣ Create Your Custom Invoice Extractor

You can create a custom extractor using the AI-powered extractor creation dialog by clicking on "+ New Custom Extractor" and writing a custom prompt on what header fields and line item fields you would like to extract from invoices:

4️⃣ Review and Edit the Fields

You can add both header fields and line item fields. Examples include:

Header Fields:

  • Invoice Number

  • Vendor Name

  • Invoice Date

  • Due Date

  • Invoice Amount

Line Item Fields: (for itemized invoices)

  • Item Name

  • Quantity

  • Unit Price

  • Line Total

5️⃣ Upload and Test

You can then press "Save and Test" to proceed to the testing page. Upload a sample invoice—PDF, image, or plain text. When you upload it, the extraction process starts automatically. You should see the results within 30 seconds or so. Review the AI’s output to ensure all fields are correctly captured.

If you want to re-run the extractor on a given file, you should click on Extract button in the Extractor Test page.
